Furniture for sale

Normally I work solely to commission. Most of my work is specifically designed for a particular situation, but there are a number of designs in my portfolio that can be repeated to order. I also have a very few items available for immediate sale: they sometimes have particular and unusual histories, making them not very representative of my work as a whole, though I still have a fondness for them. Please contact me directly for more information about a particular piece.

The Griffin Table

This table, a very unusual piece in my output, is intended as a reworking in timber of the spirit of Italian renaissance marble tables. Although the top is richly inlaid, the decoration follows a highly unified theme and is itself a main element of the design. The structural form of the table is inspired in part by a mid-seventeenth-century table in Chetham's Hospital, Manchester.

The top is veneered with groundwork of Swiss pear radiating from the centre, into which is set a central eight-pointed star in inlaid kingwood and tulipwood. An elliptical band of kingwood lozenges against a tulipwood background touches the sides of the table top at their mid points and the outer corners of the rectangular top are filled with a design in exceptionally fine French burr walnut with black ebony discs. The outer slope of the top has a zigzag pattern, again in kingwood and tulipwood, bordered above and below by Indian rosewood. The top is supported by four shaped griffin legs in solid bubinga resting on a floor level, double-Y shaped stretcher in solid bubinga faced on the top with inlaid Swiss pear.

It measures approximately 2000 by 1000mm and is 730mm high.
